You walk along the mountain path of the Wind Valley, taking your time to forage whatever you could find laying on the ground such as bamboo shoots.

However, a whistling sound distracts you for a moment. The sounds of a flute rang through the area and your curiosity could only invade your thoughts of seeking it out. As you walked, the sounds of the lullaby got closer until you happen upon a figure playing a wooden flute.

Yet your presence did not disturb him as he continued to play the peaceful tune against the gentle breeze that traveled the mountain. He slowly ended the tune and turned his head over to you.

"Hello, Forager." He spoke softly, the sound of his voice pleasant to your large fox ears. It was gentle like the breeze blowing by across the mountain.

"I hope the traverse up the mountain was a pleasant one and you have found delicious sprouting bamboo shoots to take back to your home," sitting atop a large stone boulder, the God carefully dropped down before you. His movement was ever so delicate.

"I hope you enjoyed the melody and I hope that your way down the mountain path is filled with bountiful items," God Minstrel leaned forward in a bow.

"I give you a protective blessing as a kind gesture for taking the time to listen to my lovely song," he stands tall once more, and with a swift yet polite motion he begins to wander off into the thickets of the bamboo forest. As he does this, you notice the grass gently part where he takes his steps and a feeling of a kind breeze washes over you.

PREVIOUS LIFE

Ren was a wise and kind boy from a small mountain village. Born to scholarly parents, Ren was raised to speak his mind and open his heart to learning all sorts of things, but Ren preferred a different lifestyle. One of casual music and travel. Sadly, that didn’t last too long as the whole family was to be executed.

Their world was dictated under a single ruler and those who went against the ruler were to be brought and executed if anyone dared to speak ill, against, or set rumors about their powerful leader. Though it wasn’t Ren himself that caused the issue, everyone in his family were treated as traitors and suffered the same fate as he.

The boy begged their Ruler for forgiveness at least for his family as Ren was sure that this issue was caused by lies spreading. The Ruler heard the boy’s plea and has known of his travels and songs, which piqued his interest. The Ruler decided to let his family be as long as the boy could play him music from his travel and so, Ren agreed.

He would spend days and night playing music for the Ruler. During the day, at midday, and at night. There was no rest for the boy playing the many wonderful notes of the lullabies that he found on his journey. One night, he was too exhausted to play and the Ruler was angered. Demanding this voiceless boy be executed. Strung up against a wooden pole by a dangerous cliffside, the Ruler let the harsh weather take the boy’s life. For three days it stormed and the boy suffered but thanks to the sweet taste of rainwater, he managed to sing one last song.

The following dawn, the body of the boy lay lifeless, and yet his dying expression showed nothing but a peaceful smile.

“How cruel this gentle soul exists in a world with no remorse. I come to ask of your soul and once more you will be able to frolic with the winds and the sound of your lovely flute once more.”

A small creature stood before the body of Ren and using its eyes, it retrieved the soul from the husk of the still body and placed it into its Soulbag. Crossing into a world where silks dripped and twisted, as it walked its way to an empty husk.

“Yours is the name of Minstrel. Let your voice sing nature’s will.”
