The Sweet Side of Summer

It was a beautiful day, the sun was out and only a few clouds covered it here and there. The sunlight hit Noir in the face, which woke her up. She slowly opened her eyes and stared at the blurry ceiling for a bit. She didn’t have her glasses on, but she sat up and put them on. Looking over at Brii on the other end of the bed, she was a wild sleeper so she often slept on the opposite end so she doesn’t accidentally hit Noir while they sleep. Noir smiled at the sight of her, there’s nothing more she would rather have, than a daughter like her. Of course she just took her in when she had nowhere else to go, but they had grown closer over the years. Today would be special, Noir thought. She always adored being with Brii, and always wanted to give her the attention she needed. She never wanted Brii to feel that loneliness she felt on their first encounter ever again. Noir got up, a little slowly so that she didn’t wake up Brii. Noir thought about what they could do, pick flowers maybe? But no, Brii did that pretty often, she may not find doing it again as special. Maybe they could go out into the Hidden Garden? There’s lot of nice plants and flowers out there. Plus it’s a very nice day, it would be a nice thing to do for her. Perhaps she could stash some treats in a cloaking spell. Yes, that is what she would do. Now what would Brii like? Ah! Some nice bread rolls and honey would be nice, Noir thought. It’s something small, not too big. She didn’t need anything like a huge feast. That’s what she would do, first things first though, breakfast. Noir thought she would make a nice fruit plate, something small and easy. Noir gathered a few apples and grapes, and set them on a plate with the grapes in the middle. Then got an orange and sliced its wedges, placing them in a circle around the grapes. Then she sat the plate on the table and got a cup of orange juice and put it next to the fruit plate. It was around about an hour later when Brii got up, she slowly walked around the corner, rubbing her eyes. She smiled when she saw Noir with the plate of fruit in her hands. Then they sat at their table together and ate the plate of fruit. They talked about their day, and how nice it was and what all they could do at the Garden and the flowers Brii would pick. They got ready to head outdoors, and as soon as Noir closed the door behind her she could sort of see a sort of commotion going on towards the coast. Well, it was the beginning of summer, and the god Dipsi is usually hanging around with other foxes at this time. Huh, Noir thought, well maybe they could avoid it. Brii didn’t seem to be bothered, so they went on. As they got closer to the coast though they could see clearly. There was another god there it seemed like, she had a fairy-like appearance and a really interesting flower tail. Who was this? Noir thought. Brii saw too and smiled brightly, she loves flowers, and this fox had a lot of them. They seemed to be bickering about something, they caught a glimpse of the info, something about the summer weather? The unfamiliar god was going on and on about how hot it always is, and that her plants had been wilted away. And Dipsi was trying to come back and tell her how it was nice to cool off in the water, and how much fun other foxes could have with each other. But the flower god didn’t seem to budge. Noir stood there watching, she didn’t want to interfere but she also didn’t want the god to think Summer was so bad. Sure it was hot, but the space in the Garden was never like that, it was often pretty nice. Maybe the god would like that actually, it was a garden after all. They could try to talk to her. Noir looked over and found that Brii was already heading over there to them. That’s the thing with her, Brii was never afraid to confront foxes about issues if she knew a way she could help. Noir on the other hand, often fell back and contemplated going up to others she didn’t know. She often kept to herself and inside, and really only went out when Brii was around, since she could kind of talk for them both. Well When she got over to Brii she had already had the flower god to the side and was talking to her. Dipsi seemed to stand off to the side and smiled, which most likely meant that whatever Brii was saying was working. Brii was telling the god, which Dipsi told them her name was Fleur, that there were wonderful things to do in the summer, and pointed to a table with two foxes talking together. One had a smoothie and the other looked like they had a kind of icecream with cake on the side. She said that on days like these foxes could go outside and just enjoy the weather with each other while eating nice treats. Fleur looked to where she was pointing and nodded. Then Brii walked back over towards Noir with Fleur behind her and asked Noir if they could go to the garden together. Noir hesitated but agreed. Dipsi didn’t want to but thanked them for talking to Fleur before heading back towards the ocean. The trio headed down a path in the forest that led to the Hidden Garden, and Brii led the way. While they walked Noir and Fleur actually talked for a while, Noir was interested in the sort of magic she used and the Scythe that was supposedly from the All-Mother herself. It was wild how these gods simply roamed around with normal foxes like themselves.. 

They entered the Hidden Garden and Fleur seemed to smile a lot more, the garden was filled with more plants than the eye could see, and had a nice open field with a few structures in the background. Fleur was so excited, there were a lot of flowers that had looked newly bloomed and the weather wasn’t as hot as she thought it was. She thanked Brii for talking to her about the garden (Noir thought she already knew of this place..) and showing her, and thanked Noir just for speaking to her, she could tell Noir was one of the more quiet type. 

They ended up spending the day hanging about in the Garden, picking flowers with Fleur, resting in the field and eating a few snacks Noir had conjured.
