Festival in dismay

“Where am i……what happened” all he could remember was waking up in a violent shiver…..

It was the night of the moon orb festival. His beloved eclipse had invited him to join him and his sister starlight to the gathering to string up moon water to celebrate. Nocturn was still new to the scarfox world after his rebirth this would be his first time ever seeing the moon orb festival. Talk began to rise around as everyone gathered to listen to astrals stories, stories about yste. Nocturn was confused on who yste was “a creature of evil? How so everyone here seems so k-“ he was hushed by eclipse so they could listen.

Nearing the fall of night as the moon rose and stars came out of their sun blessed blankets to shine the foxes began to cheer as the festival had begun leaving once story time had finished eclipse had grabbed nocturn by his large paw and his sister star and took them to their favorite tree to start hanging the orbs of moon water, each orb decorated and themed after each fox who crafted it as they began to shine with a soft blue glow looking out he could see other scarfs with their friends and family hanging their own as he bent down and nuzzled his beloveds head.

Before anything else could be said sudden screaming broke the blissful silence seeing foxes run away star, noct and eclipse grouped together all of them terrified hearing their sudden screams. “What was that….” Nocturn looked around frantic with no visible sign of danger star shivered slightly she could feel a cold creeping presence near as she looked around prompting the others to join her once the caught on, nocturn prying open a bush caused starlight to yell “NOCTURN NO!!!” a large purple shadow had rushed out no eyes, only teeth that haunted nocts very soul, he would hear someone scream yste but his vision was too fuzzy to make out anything all he could feel was this creature this thing ripping open his soul that it can fit inside causing nocturn to let out a painful cry.

His body has grown numb to the sheer amount of pain unable to feel his loves touch as he desperately tried to pull his mate away from the consuming soul, it had seeped its way into his mind and into his body as it faded. Nocturn standing up caused eclipse and star to back up with eclipse keeping his arm in front of star to shield her “n…noct…love..can you hear me” nocturn was only seen breathing heavily before his mouth opened 3 eerie souls had rushed from his maw before swarming behind him a large bright light had appeared which signaled the small souls to leave and dance and hover around his body. Eclipse had reached out slowly to touch the arm of his love only for nocturn to wobble and slump forward soon falling to the ground and passing out…….

“Where am I…what happened” all he could remember was waking up in a violent shiver… “where am I…..who are you…I can’t see..it hurts help me..” nocturn jolted up looking around it was hard to see but he could hear faint whispering the sun was rising, was he asleep all night? Outside? Rubbing his eye he could hear a gasp a small ring of foxes surrounded him including his mate and his younger sister “it’s cold I can’t see..” he could hear small whispers as he looked around only to come face to face with a small wisp he could hear it’s quiet cries as he reached out as held it in his claws “who’s there I can’t see” he could hear it was scared….it was a tortured soul he stopped as he looked up to finally take in the crowd “what’s going on…why are you all here..?” He stood up as the crowd gasped and backed up from him causing nocturn to flinch he didn’t understand as he saw eclipse push past the crowd and run to him, instinctively he bent down and nuzzles eclipse welcoming his specs of light and love in what seems to be a dark void “careful he might attack you” he could hear a scarf comment in the crowd “HE WILL DO NO SUCH THING HOW DARE YOU”

Nocturn was taken aback by his mates sudden tone, he was about to ask what was going on again only to be tightly hugged by his smaller love “it was yste….he..he corrupted your soul some of the other foxes were taken by yste as well but it disappeared after the sun rose but it didn’t leave you. Nocturn seemed taken aback “what do you me-“ it was then he heard one of the souls cry out to him again as his ears pivoted in its direction “you can hear that too right…” eclipse shook his head no “are they yste?” Eclipse gave nocturn a saddened look “no but they are souls who fell into corruption at ystes hands, your soul was pulled open and they slipped inside now forever lost floating over a body half connected” noctun reached out and cupped one of the soul like wisps in his claws and pet it gently only hearing it call out in fear.

“What’s going to happen to me?” There was silence among the crowd no one sure of what to say “we are not sure…some wish to cast you out, they see you as dangerous your bond with Mother is not there I can feel it…” nocturn looked around, his bond with mother? Is that why they were all connected.. “I was only brought into this world for a little while only to end up feared and hated by those who welcomed me….” “No noct it’s not tr-“ “BUT IT IS” tears were visibly seen forming in his eyes, this was meant to be a night to gather and celebrate but now it’s a night of fear and regret as noct backed up away from eclipses embrace he could see once again the crowds voice lifted in whispers asking if he would attack or family telling others to step back, so many whispers filled his head as he let out a loud growl and placed his hands on the ground and dashing out through an opening in the crowd eclipse called for him running to him only for a few foxes to grab and stop him…..only for nocturn to run from view into the forest flora that he called home upon his first arrival…
